Six Flags Over Georgia may be something you think of as just a day trip—which is certainly fun—but when have you ever really conquered every ride in the park in one day? Chattanooga is less than 2 hours from Atlanta right along the Tennessee River. Named one of the “Top 45 Places to go”, and “The Best Place Ever” (twice!), Chattanooga has tons of outdoor and indoor attractions—stroll the 13miles of Riverwalk or take a Riverboat cruise, enjoy an afternoon at the Tennessee Aquarium, and visit the stunning Ruby Falls.
Athens, Georgia is a surprising place—self-described as “Live
Music Central” with venues like the famous 40 Watt Club that have helped to launch the careers of many musicians and comedians.
Stay at The Graduate Hotel and make sure to have some fried okra at George’s Low Country Table restaurant.
A trip to the Smokey Mountains can’t help but make the list of favorite
weekend trips. The Great Smokey Mountains National Park straddles the border between North Carolina and Tennessee.
Hike part of the Appalachian Trail, go to the top of the observation deck for Clingmans Dome and just BE amid all the natural wonder that is the Great Smokey Mountains.
Camp if you’re able to, or stay at one of the local hotels in nearby Dollywood, Gatlinburg, or Pigeon Forge.
