Internet Slang
Internet slang lies somewhere between words that are trending among Gen-Y-ers and other digital citizens and those that have crept into dictionaries as new words. The number of new words, acronyms that are part of the latest category of the English vocabulary words is astounding. Beginning life as internet slang, the body of words grow by the day, and so keeping up with it is an exercise in persistence and requires virtual 24/7 social media presence.

Acronyms play a huge role in internet slang terms, the main reason being that the creators of these terms by definition are looking for ways to shorten phrases and words, to reduce them to their bare essentials and still convey meaning. Internet slang terms are here to stay and will have an enormous influence on our standard English vocabulary as they become accepted by the mainstream.
