Summer in San Francisco is even hotter with TALK’s special activities
Summer is here and San Francisco has become a party! The season is the peak of tourism in the Bay Area: people from all over the world are attracted by the weather with high temperatures softened by strong winds that come from the sea and by the cold, wet fog in the morning. Fairs, parades and festivals are the greatest attractions that make Summer an excellent opportunity to have fun while learning English in the United States.
TALK English Schools‘ brand-new Summer special activities will bring students together! The school’s privileged location in the Fisherman’s Wharf neighborhood in the heart of San Francisco makes access to many activities scattered throughout the city easier. Check out some of the attractions that will make your Summer even more fun.
Pride Festival
June is the month of LGBT Pride and the Pride Festival in San Francisco is one of the biggest and most famous in the world. The SF Pride theme of 2019 is “Generations of Resistance” and the schedule is filled with attractions such as film festivals, dance parties and art shows, which peak over two days of festivities on June 29th and 30th. On June 30th the 49th Grand Parade takes place, starting at 10:30am from Embarcadero, en route to Beale Street and Civic Center, with speeches by Mayor London Breed and local celebrities, as well as a performance by the world-famous Brazilian drag queen Pabllo Vittar. How about getting to know San Francisco in the middle of a big party for diversity?
Stern Grove Festival
The famous Stern Grove Festival promotes “music for all” and takes place every Sunday from June 16th to August 18th at Sigmund Stern Grove, located on 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard. Admission is free and some of the scheduled shows are: The Isley Brothers, The Psychedelic Furs, Mitski, San Francisco Ballet and San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. You can book a picnic table to watch the shows comfortably by donating to LiveImpact.org. Kayaking on the Bay
The Bay Area is Northern California’s postcard with the eight other counties surrounding San Francisco. The famous Golden Gate Bridge, which connects San Francisco to Marin County, is one of the many bridges that cross the Bay. One of the most incredible ways to appreciate the beautiful coastlines and picturereque landscape of the Bay is to go kayaking! The sport is safe for beginners as well as for experts and will give you a unqiue appreciation of the region. Talk to our San Francisco school staff to learn more about how to enjoy this adventure.
Summer Career Workshop Series
Among the indoors school activities, the team in San Francisco offer a series of workshops focused on boosting your professional skills. They will talk about some of the dos & don’ts when it comes to writing resumes, creating LinkedIn profiles as well as networking and interviewing skills. As these kinds of topics differ country to country – students will learn what is most appropriate in the United States. They are designed to build the student’s confidence and knowledge around how to be successful in their job search in the US. TALK couple these workshops with real world experiences – going to career fairs, networking events as well as helping students create their own resumes for future jobs.
There are other incredible activities in San Francisco, such as visiting Alcatraz Island, cycling across Golden Gate Bridge, visiting museums such as the de Young Museum and The Academy of Sciences. Stay tuned for the activities schedule and talk to Kristen Miller, TALK San Francisco School Director or Kaytlin Hancock, Student Services Coordinator.
