What to Expect from Memorial Day in Miami

 In Miami

Monday, May 29th is Memorial Day in 2017.  Memorial Day wraps up the busy Miami Summer Season.  And being Miami, the city sees the season out with a bang. About 200,000 people regularly descend on the Miami Beach area at this time, and the beaches are packed and the traffic jammed, and Miami has become famous for its party-like atmosphere and glamorous events that take place on Memorial Day weekend.

So, while some of our students will no doubt take advantage of the numerous parties and fun to be had in this southern city, TALK Miami will host a quieter kind of celebration, but it is likely to be very chill, and lots of fun!

David Kennedy Park is located in Coconut Grove, south of Brickell Avenue where TALK Miami is located.  The park is right on the water with a view of the Biscayne bay.  With its ocean breeze and shaded spots, the park is a great respite from the hustle and bustle of the Brickell Avenue commercial district and workers and students can pop over and take advantage of all sorts of amenities, such as a free outdoor gym, a running path, a dog park, beach volleyball and a kids’ area. Oh! And a lemonade stand.  There are also wooden docks where people can hang out. Or set up a blanket, and chill.  Just a walk away from these wide open spaces and water views is Coconut Grove with its shops and restaurants.

It is here that the students of TALK Miami will celebrate Memorial Day this May with a picnic and a beach volleyball match.  The park is the go-to venue for the school staff and students for such events. The teachers and students will also give a presentation about Memorial Day, its history, what it means to American people, and some of the lesser known facts about this day.
