A jam-packed January at TALK
January is packed with exciting activities in TALK English Schools at Fort Lauderdale, Boston and San Francisco. The schools offer most of the activities that are on the most popular tourist routes, and many unique outings and events that are designed with our students in mind. There is always something to do at TALK English Schools!
What’s on in January at TALK
TALK Boston students get to do typical January things, like going to see the famous Boston Fireworks on New Year’s Eve and Ice skating at Frog Pond in Boston Common. Martin Luther King Jr Day, on January, means that the MFA is free. So students attend parades and events to celebrate the day, and then visit other parts of the city with friends for free.
It’s all about language immersion in the funnest way possible when TALK Boston Students get together every Friday for English movies, and diversity is on display at International Food Day. Here, the students bring a dish that is typical cuisine in their native country, and the day is not only filled with delicious and new tastes, but also interesting stories about the background to the national cuisines.
TALK Fort Lauderdale kicks off the New Year with visits to the Everglades, where students take a tour of this amazing wilderness area on an airboat, stopping to check out the alligators and birdlife, and visiting one of the islands where the Miccosukee people create and sell beaded, woven and leather goods, offer you a taste of alligator meat and where you can watch one of the Miccosukee mean wrestle an alligator!
Another ‘cultural’ activity that will surely be on offer in January is to attend a Florida Panthers hockey game. Yes, one of the premier teams of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League is based in this tropical part of the States! It was founded in 1993.The Florida Panthers play their home games at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida. Sunrise is a town just west of Ft. Lauderdale and just north of Miami.
TALK San Francisco students enjoy the best of the activities on offer in the San Francisco Bay Area in January: on January 16, they can join or just watch the MLK March or visit the exhibits at the Museum of the African Diaspora free on that day to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Noir City screens classic films that are stylish and melodramatic at the famous Castro Theatre.
And then, there’s the Run for Hot Chocolate, held January 8, when you can enjoy a beautiful run through Golden Gate Park and along the ocean on the “Hot Chocolate 15K/5K”, and which ends at an after-party with hot chocolate and fondue. That sounds like a day not to miss, for sure!
