Deeper Insight Into Cultures
Everything that exits our mouth when speaking is a form of communication that we all decode in our own ways. Our language can be meaningful, and allows us to communicate on greater levels than we think. It is a defining feature of all people right around the world.
Western societies may assume that speaking and understanding multiple languages is an exception. Although it is now believed that ¾ of the world’s population, to some degree, is bilingual. This is roughly 4 billion people who understand more than one language. In working or speaking multiple languages it is said that it opens our eyes to new cultures and allows us to explore new prospects and ideas. These options wouldn’t have been available or obvious to us if we hadn’t of learnt the new language. We wouldn’t understand the world as we do now and experience people and cultures in the same way. This is important for those who want to have better understanding and deeper global awareness of other cultures.
In today’s world by the time students reach 16 they have most likely travelled abroad. They will have had easy access to the internet and a world of information. However they will still need guidance through the discovery process so that they can have a deeper insight into understanding their own culture and place.
By understanding yourself entirely and where you come from will help you fully understand new cultures and give you full insight into brand new worlds and countries. Having multiple culture background or knowledge is one of the best things you can have while studying abroad. It makes you understand that everyone is different and that no matter where you are in the world there is always someone that is either better or worse off than what you are. You will learn something about the national character of the people of your host country and see that each country has their own cultural differences.
