Halloween Atlanta-style
In Atlanta, as with many cities and towns of America, Halloween is one of the most anticipated events of the year. Although Halloween falls on the last day of October, the entire month is filled with Halloween-type events and activities. And everyone is thinking about and planning their Halloween costume.
A Southern Gothic Halloween
Atlanta loves Halloween – somehow it fits with the Southern gothic tradition – old pre-Civil War era graveyards with strange tombstones, sprawling plantations houses with histories that encompass the harshness of slavery – even the indigenous trees and vegetation can give off a spooky air. The southern live oak tree, with their gnarly root systems above the ground, and from which wisps of Spanish moss hang, is indigenous to the South Eastern United States. Eerie but beautiful, this gray moss gives the trees an unworldly and kind of forbidding quality.
In Atlanta and its surrounds, there is plenty to scare and entertain you! Netherworld is the most famous haunted house in the area. It promises the visitor a thrill-packed and terrifying time. With its special effects, monsters and actors dressed up and ready to scare you witless, Netherworld is considered one of the premier haunted houses in the world.
TALK Atlanta Halloween
TALK Atlanta students have weeks of fun with Halloween events and parties, while planning their costumes for the school’s famous annual Halloween Costume Contest. Every year, students come up with uniquely horror-inducing costumes and each year they seem to introduce a whole new scary element to the competition! Stay posted for the announcements of this year’s winners.
And – A very Happy, Fun Halloween to all of our TALK English school students.
